All Things DIY

Okay. So. I have been looking forward to this post for weeks now! I love to do DIY projects! For those of you who don’t know, DIY stands for Do It Yourself, meaning that if you see something you like (and this can be anything from staining a fence to crocheting a blanket) you can find all of the material and tools you need to make it or put it together all on your own! I love this do DIY art project personally, but I’ve also been know to dabble in a little bit of self-organization as well. No matter your DIY style, there is always something for everyone to create and they always add something special to the home.

Let’s start with the basics. Pinterest, Pinterest, Pinterest! This is the DIYer’s dream and this social site offers a plethora of projects and ideas that are suitable for all levels of handiness, craftiness, etc. Use this site to your advantage. Pinterest has been argued to be a better search engine than Google and I agree. Here’s why: if you search “chevron”, you aren’t going to find a bunch of boring, flat chevron. Instead you are going to be greeted with a wide variety of chevron: chairs with chevron fabric, chevron crafts, chevron on clothes, chevron plates and bowls… the possibilities of what you will find on Pinterest really do seem endless.

Next, I will tell you that should you start projects and then you become addicted to doing it yourself (you wouldn’t be the first or last person to do so either), then it will be beneficial for you to keep a few DIY essentials on hand at all times. These essentials would, in my opinion, include the following:

1. Mod Podge!!

2. Paper and pencils, of course

3. Paint brushes

4. Nice scissors

5. The ability to accept failure

Now if you’re questioning the last thing, let me explain. Not every DIY project is going to turn out well. In fact there are whole sites dedicated to Pinterest and DIY failures. If you haven’t checked that out before, I highly suggest you do: http://pinterestfail.com you won’t regret it. Anyways, some of your projects are going to fail, and that is okay! Because there is always the next one which is bound to be the best creation of all time! Just stay positive and enjoy!

Lastly, anything you make is something to be proud of. Never be discouraged. Every creation and DIY project is something that you have put your heart and soul into and it should be shown off! Put everything on display. If you’re trying out that new recipe, invite some people over to taste it! If you just finished staining that fence, be sure to hang out outside in order to enjoy it! Whatever it is, don’t forget to appreciate it and all you put into it to make it happen!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s blog! Until next time,

🙂 Kaelyn

  1. Great article Kaelyn! I love using Pinterest for DIY ideas! I love the idea of accepting failure. I have tried a few DIY projects that didn’t come out like I thought, but I’m glad it didn’t stop me from doing more!

  2. l love how you put “the ability to accept failure” as an essential! When you go onto Pinterest and see all of the creative and flawless things that people create it can be so discouraging if your creation turns out anything less than perfect. This was a great little reminder that it’s okay if what you create is perfect!
