Sleep and the Importance of a Relaxing Bedroom

You spend around one third of your life sleeping. Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your body and can lead to a decreased chance of weight gain, a longer life, more creativity, and can help improve memory. Sleep is so important! So, your bedroom, your place of sleep, should really be the most relaxing and comfortable rooms in the house! I am a firm believer that your space will reflect how you feel in that space. So if a room is messy and unorganized, you will feel messy and unorganized. If your bedroom is peaceful and relaxing, you will feel peaceful and relaxed, leading to a great night’s sleep!

Follow these five tips on how to create the most peaceful bedroom ever!

1. Get Blackout Curtains!

Having a very dark room will help so much in achieving a good sleep because lights distract you. You also won’t be disturbed in the early hours of the morning by the sun, so you can be sure to sleep until your body is ready to wake up. You can buy them in all sorts of colors and patterns, so don’t worry about them clashing with your decor! Also, blackout curtains have been known to save energy by controlling the temperature and light of a room–awesome!!

2. Colors Matter

When decorating your bedroom, remember that loud colors and big patterns distract your mind and make it wander. When choosing colors for this space, lean toward more soothing tones such as blues, khakis, and light greens. This will help your mind to be at ease.

3. Invest in a Mattress

If you buy a cheap mattress, it will probably feel like a cheap night of sleep. Like I said before, you sleep for about one third of your life…go ahead and indulge in that mattress that feels like a cloud. It will be worth it! If you’re in a dorm and don’t have the control over the mattress situation, invest in a topper. They range in all sorts of styles and prices and can really help in making your bed super comfortable.

4. Get Rid of Clutter

Buy some cute organizational baskets to put things in. Get a hamper for clothes, and another basket to keep clutter off of table tops. If it is out of sight, it is out of mind, so you won’t be thinking about it when you’re trying to sleep!

5. Love Your Bedding

If your bed is super comfortable, you will be too! Buy the best comforter and sheet set for you! Keep in mind your temperature tendencies and make sure your bedding won’t make you too hot or cold. I would also invest in a few blankets to have on hand in case they are needed or you want a little extra comfort!

There it is!! Some of the tools you need to get a better night’s sleep! I hope that these tips are helpful.
